First Fictions is a biennial boutique literary festival designed to celebrate and champion new writing and innovation in fiction.
Organised by Myriad Editions and the University of Sussex, the festival offers an inspiring programme of literary discussion in the company of some of today’s most creative authors, agents, academics and publishers.
Philippa Gregory, Jackie Kay, Alison MacLeod, William Nicholson and Lesley Thomson are just some of the exciting authors appearing at this year's First Fictions festival.
The 2014 festival will take place at West Dean College, the stately home of the late poet, Edward James, a 6,000-acre estate nestled in the South Downs, near Chichester.
Other confirmed speakers include Ros Barber, Sally O'Reilly, Woodrow Phoenix and bestselling crime writer Elizabeth Haynes. The packed weekend of events will include round table discussions on: New Forms of Writing, Crime Writing, The Short Story, Graphic Storytelling and New Ways of Reading, Reinventing Historical Fiction, and Ethics and Truth in Fiction. In addition, the University of Sussex's Professor Nicholas Royle will unveil a special 'Uncanny' edition of Quick Fictions in a late-night salon by the fireside.
